• SAHAJA YOGA

    Know ThySelf

Sahaja Yoga is a unique method of meditation and self development, based on an experience called Self Realization, which can occur within each human being.

With Sahaja Yoga (from the Sanskrit words ‘sahaja’ meaning spontaneous or ‘inborn’ and ‘yoga’ or ‘union’), reaching a state of deep meditation and inner peace becomes easy and effortless. Sahaja Yoga offers practical means to achieve a lasting, balanced and improved mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Sahaja Yoga meditation starts with the experience of Self Realization, through the awakening of a soothing energy that lies dormant within every human being. This inner awakening, which opens the path to deeper self-knowledge, is referred to in different spiritual traditions, as Self realization, Second Birth, Enlightenment, Liberation, Moksha, Satori and is the goal of many spiritual traditions.

Deeply rooted in ancient spiritual philosophies, Sahaja Yoga meditation is actualized to fit the needs and aspirations of modern societies and demanding lifestyles. It is practised in over 100 countries around the world, by people of all ages and sociocultural background.

Sahaja Yoga was founded in the early 1970s by H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, a world-renown philanthropist and meditation master, also the recipient of numerous awards and twice a Nobel peace prize nominee.

  • SHRI MATAJI NIRMALA DEVI

Shri Mataji, the founder Born in 1923 in India, Shri Mataji known then as Nirmala Salve, spent many months with Mahatma Gandhi during her childhood and was deeply involved in the country’s independence movement. She is a descendent of an Indian royal family and her father was a member of India’s first parliament.

In 1970, Shri Mataji founded Sahaja Yoga, initiating a mass silent inner revolution. For over 40 years, she travelled around the world, offering public lectures and the meditative experience of Self Realization to all. She not only enabled people to pass this valuable experience on to others but also taught them the meditation technique necessary to sustain it.

Shri Mataji maintained that there exists an untapped spiritual potential within every human being and that this latent energy can be awakened by a simple method of meditation. She emphasized that this awakening cannot be purchased. Money is thus never charged for the experience of Self Realization nor for the teaching of Sahaja Yoga. Nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize, Shri Mataji was honoured by the United Nations, the US Congress and many other nations, receiving countless prestigious awards for her contribution to peace, and the health and well-being of human kind.

Contact: Sahaja Yoga Foundation of Thailand Tel. 081-930-6618 Email: [email protected] Website: www.sahajayogathai.com   Background – Sahaja Yoga international One Mother’s Journey from a Freedom Fighter to a Beloved Guru with a Global Vision: Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi A “life dedicated to the well-being and benevolence of humanity, completely, and entirely.” In March 2023 (21 March) hundreds of thousands of people around the world will celebrate the centenary anniversary of the birth of Nirmala Srivastava, better known to those who have been touched by her teachings as Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, the founder of Sahaja Yoga. The celebrations will take place both online and at Sahaja Yoga Centers around the world. They will include curated recordings of Shri Mataji’s talks, musical performances, and a special opportunity to experience first-hand the meditation practice of Sahaja Yoga. Nirmala Srivastava lived an extraordinary life. She is one of the first — and still few — women gurus. Lovingly called Shri Mataji, “the respected Mother,” she dedicated herself to bringing spiritual awakening to everyone she embraced during her continuous travels around the world (for over four decades, including five visits in Thailand in the early 1990s). She never once took money for her teaching, and to this day Sahaja Yoga is free for everyone. Her belief that “You have to be your own guru” is fundamental to Sahaja Yoga. Born in 1923 in India to highly placed parents of the royal Shalivahana lineage, she spent her early years fighting alongside her parents in the struggle for India's independence, for which she was eventually jailed. Shri Mataji also spent time with Mahatma Gandhi at his Sevagram Ashram. She later studied medicine in Lahore, founded several charities, and raised her own family with husband C.P. Srivastava, who later went on to become the longest serving Secretary General of the UN International Maritime Organization based in London. All the while she continued to search for the best way to help people discover the spirituality within themselves. In 1970, at the age of 47, she initiated a new and powerful way to connect with a spiritual practice which could transform their lives. For the following four decades, she tirelessly spread the profound message of Sahaja Yoga across the globe, traveling to over 100 countries to offer the experience of en-masse self-realisation to all those who were seeking their inner spiritual transformation. She visited Thailand on five occasions in the early 1990s to give public lectures and grant the experience of self-realization. The rest of her life is best described by Shri Mataji herself: “My life now is dedicated to the well-being and benevolence of humanity, completely, entirely.” For more information about Shri Mataji and/or to participate in the celebration activities including a global livestream starting at 12pm CET on the 21st of March 2023, please visit shrimataji.org and https://www.sahajayogathai.com/en/ (In Thailand, the birth centenary is being organized by Sahaja Yoga Foundation of Thailand on 11-12 March 2023, jointly with Chulalongkorn University Dharma Center).
